Deptford; Warship; Sixth rate; 24 guns
Scale: 1:48. A contemporary full hull block model of the storeship ‘Deptford’ (1735), built in ‘bread and butter’ fashion. Measuring 124 feet along the gun deck by 33 feet in the beam and with a tonnage of 951, it was built at Deptford Dockyard and launched in April 1735. It was armed with 24 guns, comprising of a mixture of 12- and 9-pounders, which would only be used in self defence.
Storeships were designed to carry naval stores such as spars, timber, cordage and tar, all the material required for the running repairs for warships at sea. The ‘Deptford’ was finally broken up in 1756.
