Fighting vessel; Gunboat

Scale: 1:48. A modern full hull model of a gunboat (circa 1788), built plank on frame. Model is decked, equipped with a single gun in the bow, and fully rigged with sails set. The model has no base, but two wooden supports are glued to the bottom. At this scale, the model represents a vessel measuring 48 feet in length by 14 feet in the beam and an approximate tonnage of 40 burden. It was armed with a single 32-pounder gun fitted to a wooden carriage secured to a slide on the deck. These vessels were usually rigged with a large dipping lugsail although there is evidence that the lateen and foresail, as shown on this model, was also used.
