Scale: 1:24. A waterline model of a 20-gun sixth-rate sloop (circa 1795). The model is decked, equipped and rigged. It was probably made in the early 19th century, when waterline models were rare. It has the open bulwarks that were replaced in 1795, but is painted in the ‘Nelson chequer’ of post-1805. The hull shape seems reasonably accurate and the rigging is rendered accurately, but it cannot be identified with any particular ship. It was previously in the collection of the training ship 'Mercury' and was bought by Sir James Caird in 1929, then given to the National Maritime Museum.
