Warship; French (?); frigate; 40 guns(?)

Scale: 1:32. A contemporary(?) full hull model of a French(?) 40 gun frigate (1797?). The hull is built plank on frame and roughly painted a red-lead colour below the lower(?) gundeck with the topsides rubbed back to bare wood. Internally, the model is partially decked with a number of loose fitting such as deck beams and knees, a keelson all of which are secured by a mixture of wooden treenails and metal fastenings. At the gundeck level, it looks as if the hull divides into two longitudinally with the two sections held together by metal spring clips(now corroded). Very little remains of the stern galleries with a small section of the taffrail carving and counter pieces loose in a bag.
