Warship

Scale: 1:24. A model of a two-deck sailing warship depicted partially dismasted and in the process of being heaved over to starboard for cleaning or repairs at Antigua Dockyard, West Indies. The model is made entirely in wood, with metal and organic material fittings, and is realistically painted. The hull is hollowed out, and has been painted a copper finish below the waterline and black above with yellow ochre strips along the gun decks. Nine of the gun ports on the lower gun deck are rigged with horizontal beams passing through them on the port side, and they are rigged with blocks and tackles to the top of the lower main mast. The beam ends are also tied off to the lower hull at two points with rope and eyebolts. The lower masts of the four main and mizzen masts are in place and their standing rigging is complete. The masts crosstrees are in place together with the heals on the fore and mizzen. The foremast and main mast are also braced with three black painted beams secured to the deck on the starboard side. The main and poop decks are stained a dark brown and three sections of the main deck have been removed to show the decks below. The vessel is depicted in a dock or at a quay side which is equipped with two capstans, each with seven bars, and four bollards all rigged with blocks and tackles. Number "1" on hull. The model is displayed in a nineteenth century black lacquered display case, glazed on all sides and top and with a matching display table. Number "6" on display case.
