14-Gun Naval Schooner 1820

Scale: 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of a 14-gun naval schooner (1820). It is complete with a single boat rigged on davits, skylights and three hatches on the gun deck, and fully equipped anchors rigged over the bow. The hull is shown coppered below the waterline with a small half-bust figurehead mounted on the bow.

At this scale, the model depicts a vessel measuring 96 feet in length by 25 feet in the beam and is not dissimilar to the American ships captured during the War of 1812, although the rigging suggests a slightly later date. These vessels were mainly used for carrying despatches, scouting and normally were the first command of a junior officer.
