HMS Rose (1821); Warship; Sixth rate; 18 guns
Scale: 1:48. A contemporary half block model of the Rose (1821), an 18 gun sixth rate sloop. The hull is carved from a solid block of wood (?) and is painted a metallic bronze colour below the waterline, with black topsides to the level of the gunwale. The gundeck is highlighted by a horizontal band with ten gunports let in and painted black. Between the top of the bulwarks and the gunports are three sets of channels rigged with chainplates and deadeyes. The bow is complete with headrails just aft of the figurehead (missing), and a cathead. There is a quarter gallery together with a flat and angled stern gallery, all of which above a sternpost fitted with a rudder complete with gudgeons and pintles. The whole model is mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard which is painted a creamy white colour surrounded by a stained moulded edging on which is inscribed "(1)" amidships under the keel.
