Speedwell (circa 1825)
Scale: 1:32. A contemporary full hull model of the schooner or brigantine ‘Speedwell’ (1825) built plank on frame. The design of the hull would suggest a date sometime during the first half of the 19th century. Even though the name ‘Speedwell’ is inscribed on the stern, it has not been possible to identify the model with a particular vessel. At this scale, the model depicts a vessel measuring 71 feet in length by 20 feet in the beam, and is of the type used as packets or for carrying mail and cargo around the coast.
