Dandy (circa 1825); Two masted sailing vessel; Yacht(?); Tender(?)
Scale: Probably 1:24. A contemporary full hull, plank on frame model of a two-masted sailing vessel ‘Dandy’ (circa 1825). It is fully rigged and complete with a number of deck fittings including gratings, main hatch, skylight and anchors fished and stowed on the bow. The hull is carvel planked (edge to edge) below the wales and clinker (overlapping) above to the gunwale capping. At this scale, the actual vessel measures 74 feet in length by 21 feet in the beam.
Although the identification is uncertain, it is thought to represent a small tender or yacht. The rig is interesting in that is neither a ketch nor yawl as the mizzen mast is directly over the stern post as opposed to being forward for a ketch and aft for a yawl.
