HMS Victoria (circa 1833); Warship; 24 gun sloop
Scale: 1: 24. A contemporary full hull model of a sixth-rate, 24-gun sloop (1833). The wooden hull is built in ‘bread and butter’ fashion and is complete with minimal fittings including a boat mounted on chocks in the waist. The name ‘Victoria’ is inscribed on the stern and also a plaque with the wording ‘Model of sloop made for presentation to Princess Victoria by C Maitland Master Rigger Portsmouth Dockyard Sept 1833’. Also on the top of the drumhead capstan is inscribed ‘Presented by Mr C Maitland Matser Rigger Portsmouth Dockyard 1833’. However, on checking the Navy Lists for this date, no vessel of this name and type exists.
