Fighting vessel; Cutter; 10 guns

Scale:Unknown. A contemporary half block model of a proposed 10 gun cutter (circa 1836). The hull is carved from a solid block of wood(?) and painted a metallic bronze below the waterline with black topsides above. It has a pronounced curved sheer with a slightly angled stem running aft along a flat and deep keel. The sternpost is fitted with a rudder, above which is a overhanging counter with a flat transom. The whole model is mounted on a wooden rectangular backboard which is painted a creamy white and surrounded by a moulded stained edging. There is a painted metal plaque inscribed "Cutter Proposed by Sir W. Symond about the year 1836 (316)".
