HMS Albion (1842); Warship; Second rate; 90 guns

Scale: Unknown. A contemporary half block model of HMS Albion(1842), a second rate 90 gun ship of the line. The hull is carved from a solid block of wood and painted metallic bronze colour below the waterline with black topsides above divided horizontally by two bands of white to highlight the gundecks. It has a simplified stem shape and rounded stern galleries, below which is a two bladed propeller and a rudder attached to the stern frame. There are three stump masts (two modern) above the four flush decks together with a bowsprit over the beakhead. The whole model is mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard which is painted a creamy white and surrounded by a dark wood and moulded frame. Attached to the backboard is a paper label inscribed with text handwritten in black ink but illegible.
