Fighting vessel; Covette; Sloop; Sixth rate; 16 guns

Scale:Unknown. A contemporary half block model of a proposed 16 gun sixth rate sloop(circa 1845). The hull is carved from a solid block of wood(?) and is painted a metallic brass/bronze colour below the waterline with black topsides above. The bulwarks are complete with eight gunports cut in(some modern repairs) and highlighted by a white horizontal band at deck level. The clipper-shaped bow is fitted with a small half length figurehead and painted gold. The shallow sheerline of the hull runs aft to the stern finishing at the rounded galleries, below which is a rudder fitted with gudgeons and pintles to the sternpost. The whole model is mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard painted a creamy white and surrounded by a stained moulded edging. There is a small plaque on which is inscribed "Corvette, proposed by Capt Fishbourne about 1845. (325)".
