HMS Arethusa (1849); Warship; frigate; 50 guns
Scale: 1:48. A contemporary half block model of the 50-gun frigate HMS ‘Arethusa’ (1849). The hull is carved from wood and assembled in ‘bread and butter’ construction, painted in black and cream and complete with decks, the whole model is mounted on its original wooden backboard. There is also a plaque, which is inscribed ‘Arethusa 50 Guns, 2127 tons, built at Pembroke 1849 (278)’.
This is one of a class of four frigates, the others being HMS ‘Constance’ (1846), HMS ‘Liffey’ (1856), HMS ‘Octavia’ (1849) and HMS ‘Sutlej’(1855).
