Fighting vessel; American; Armed; Single Screw

Scale: unknown. A contemporary full hull model of a proposed American armed, single-screw ship (circa 1855), mounted on its original crutches and wooden baseboard. It has been made from mahogany and has brass fittings including the rudderstock and three-bladed propeller. It is fitted with a large breech-loading gun mounted just aft of midships, with the barrel protruding through the bows and stempost. The hull divides into two sections just aft of midships, with the fore section glassed over to reveal the inboard compartments and the gun barrel.
