Comorin (1863); Passenger vessel

Scale: 1:48. A half hull model of the starboard side of the Comorin (1863), made entirely of wood with metal fittings, painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted pink below the waterline and black above with a gold painted strake at main deck level, running the entire length of the hull. Hull fittings include a companion way, rigged from the main deck and a two-bladed propeller. All the decks are painted dark brown and scored to resemble planking. Forward deck details include a stowed anchor, truncated bowsprit, and capstan. A companion way leads from the foredeck to the main deck. Main deck details include truncated fore and main masts, double-ended boat stowed on davits, ventilator, black-painted funnel, and sky light with three glazed panels. The aft deck is bounded by a rail and its fittings include ship's wheel, compass, capstan, transomed stern boat, stowed on davits, and a long rectangular sky light, glazed on its sides. The model is displayed in its original wood-framed case, mounted on a bird's eye maple backboard. On plaque applied to backboard "Screw steamer Comorin Built and Engined by W Simons & Co London works. Renfrew".
