Service vessel; Troopship

Scale: 1:48. A half block model of a proposed troopship made entirely in wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted to resemble weathered copper below the waterline and black above. There is a well for the rudder which is either missing or was not originally fitted. Fittings include small figurehead, stump fore, main, and mizzen masts, and a single stump funnel painted ochre. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame with bevelled edge. On plaque attached to lower right-hand corner of backboard: ‘Troop ship proposed by Messrs J C Mare & CO in 1864 For the direct transport of troops between England and India’.
