Indian Empire (1865); Cargo vessel; Ship

Scale: Unknown. A half block model of the starboard side of the three-masted cargo ship Indian Empire (1865), made entirely in wood, stained and polished a light brown finish. The hull has a clipper bow. Fittings include a stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast, and a poop deck, the side section of which is painted off-white. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard, mahogany-clad below the indicated waterline, and a light-coloured wood, possibly maple, above. A plaque attached to the bottom centre of the backboard reads: ‘Indian Empire built by John Reid & Co Ltd Whiteinch Glasgow’.
