Fighting vessel; Cutter; Armed Single Screw Cutter
Scale: 1:12. A contemporary full hull model of an armed single-screw cutter (1867), as fitted to carry a carronade amidships. The hull is sheathed in yellow metal and constructed in carvel fashion with edge-to-edge planking. At this scale, the hull measurements are 24 feet in length by 6 feet in the beam and it was pulled by six single-banked oars. These boats were used for a variety of duties including transporting men and stores to and from the mother ship, as well as carrying out raids and taking the offensive role.
