Unknown vessel; Schooner

Scale: 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of a two-masted schooner, fully rigged with sails bent onto the yards and stowed. The hull is painted copper below the waterline to indicate sheathing, whilst the topsides are finished in black with a wooden capping rail. On deck, the planking has been scribed on a single sheet of wood, and is fitted with a number of fixtures including a windlass, skylights and two sets of davits. The fact that this model illustrates a vessel with fine lines, the above standard deck furniture and carries several boats, would suggest it may represent a privately owned yacht. However, these vessels were also employed in the Revenue service, although normally armed, since they were fast enough to combat the fast vessels used by smugglers.
