HMS Snake (1871); Fighting vessel; Gunboat
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the gunboat HMS Snake (1871), made entirely in wood and painted dark brown below the waterline, a narrow white stripe above and black above the waterline. Hull details include a rudder and port side propeller shaft casing. The tall bulwark accommodates three gunports and divides the forecastle from the rest of the vessel’s deck. Other fittings include a single, tall, swept back funnel, painted black. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame with bevelled edge. On plaque applied to top left-hand corner of backboard ‘Snake’.
