Scale: 1:48. A shipbuilders half block model of Martaban and Irrawaddy (both 1873), made in wood using bread-and-butter construction, with metal fittings. The lower hull is finished in natural varnished wood and shows the six horizontal planks used in the bread-and-butter construction. Above this, the hull is finished in a gloss black and has stanchion rails running the full length of the hull, which are made from turned brass with a wooden capping. The flush deck is natural wood and varnished with the individual planks marked in black ink. The clipper bow is fitted with a carved female figure in robes and painted white, and has a pair of decorated trailboards leading aft. Fixtures and fittings include: a pair of capstans, three stump masts, bollards, deck skylights, two deck houses, a bridge superstructure with a black truncated funnel just aft. The model is mounted on a polished mahogany backboard with curved edges to which is glued a paper label inscribed 'Model of the SS Martaban and Irrawaddy British and Burmese Steam Navigation Company Limited by William Denny & Brothers Dumbarton 1874.
