HMS Dreadnought (1875); Warship; Turret ship

Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the turret ship HMS Dreadnought (1875), made entirely in wood and painted dark brown below the waterline, a narrow white stripe above and black above the waterline. The paint has areas of loss and damage. Hull details include a ram bow, rudder and port side propeller shaft casing. The bulwarks have a row of portholes. Other fittings include superstructure positioned amidships and painted cream; two large-diameter gun turrets placed fore and aft the superstructure, each with the provision for two guns; stump mast; and two stump funnels, paintyed black. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame, the right-hand edge of which is missing. On plaque ‘289 Dreadnought - Battleship - 1875. An enlarged version of the Devastation (No. 280). Built at Pembroke under the name Fury, but renamed before launching. Sold 1908. Armament: - 4 12-in M.L. Dimensions: - Length 320ft. Beam 63ft 10in Displacement 10280 tons. Speed 14 knots’. Plaque currently missing.
