HMS Alexandra (1875); Warship; Battleship
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the battleship HMS Alexandria (1875), made entirely in wood and painted dark brown below the waterline, a narrow white stripe above and black above the waterline. The paint has losses and damage. Hull details include a ram bow, large recessed gun mounting insert, rows of square portholes, rectangular gunports, central battery, rudder and port side propeller shaft casing. Other fittings include stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast, and a funnel (currently missing). The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame, the left- and right-handed sides of which are missing. On plaque ‘Alexandra - 1875. Built at Chatham. Sold 1808. 1st Armament 2-11in and 10-10in M.L.R. 2nd Armament 8-10in M.L.., 4-9.2in B.L., 6-4.7in Q.F. Dimensions Length 325ft Beam 63ft 8in 9490 tons Speed 14 knots’. Plaque currently missing.
