HMS Condor (1876); Warship; Gunboat
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the composite steam gunboat HMS Condor (1876), made entirely in wood and painted in realistic colours. The hull is painted green to resemble weathered copper below the waterline, a narrow white stripe running the entire length of the hull and black above. There is a well for the propeller which is either missing or was not originally fitted. Fittings include rudder, four apertures of varying dimensions along the upper hull and a square notch inset into the gunwale amidships.
The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white in the recent past with a mahogany-stained frame with bevelled edge, the right-hand edge of which is missing. Inscribed on a plaque attached to the upper right-hand corner of backboard is ‘Condor’.
