Vesper (1878); Cargo vessel
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the starboard side of the cargo ship Vesper (1878), made entirely in wood and partly painted and polished a mid-brown colour. The hull is polished wood below the waterline and black above. Features and fittings include a raised bulwark section amidships, stump foremast and mainmast, and propeller well. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard with bevelled edges and which has a crack running longitudinally. On plaque attached to right-hand side of backboard ‘SS Vesper built by W B Thompson Dundee. Dimensions 1878 length between perpendiculars 192ft 0ins, length overall 199ft 0ins, breadth moulded 26ft 10ins, depth 15ft 7.25ins, depth of hold to ceiling 14ft 6.25ins, gross register tonnage 708.28 nett tonnage 459.13. Scale 1/4inch to a foot.’.
