Ruby (fl.1880); Cargo vessel; Barque

A waterline model of the four-masted barque Ruby (circa 1880), made entirely in wood and metal and painted in realistic colours. The vessel is depicted with fully-rigged set sails on all four masts and set in a realistically-modelled and painted plaster sea. The hull is painted light grey with a narrow red stripe running its entire length. The depicted vessel is flying six square sails on the three forward masts; a spanker and staysail on the mizzen mast; two staysails set between each mast; and four jib-sails. All the sails are made from tin plate and painted grey. Fittings include forecastle, raised deck amidships and aft deck; two lifeboats stowed forward and two stowed aft, all on lateral rails; and deckhouse. On port and starboard bows and pennant ‘Ruby’. On stern ‘Ruby London’.
