HMS Colossus (1882); Warship; Turret ship

Scale: 1:192. Half block model of HMS 'Colossus' (1882), a turret ship made entirely from wood. The hull is painted a pink-red with the upperworks and bulwarks painted black both of which are divided by a thin white line along the waterline. The lower hull is fitted with a rudder and a prop shaft at the stern whilst the bow is fitted with a ram reinforced by a horizontal stringer. The main deck is finished in a dark brown colour on which is mounted two citadel superstructures either side of the funnel and are painted black with white upperworks. There are two oval shaped hawsepipes at the bow painted red internally. There is a single circular turret on the maindeck fitted with two guns just aft of a single funnel painted a light brown yellow colour between a pair of stump masts also painted a yellow brown colour, all three of which are connected by a horizontal bridge deck painted in white. The whole model is mounted on a wooden backboard with a creamy-white background with a painted black moulded edging.
