HMS Calliope (1884); Warship; Corvette; 16 guns
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the 16-gun corvette HMS Calliope (1884), made entirely in wood and painted pink-brown below the waterline with a narrow white stripe above running the entire length of the vessel, and black above. Hull details two port hawse holes; two apertures in the bulwarks for the battery positions; rudder; and a well for the propeller which is either missing or was not originally fitted. Other fittings include stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast and a single tall funnel painted black. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame with bevelled edge. On plaque attached to top left-hand corner of backboard 'Calliope'.
