Otterspool (1884); Cargo vessel: Ship
Scale: Unknown. A half block model of the starboard side of the three-masted cargo ship Otterspool (1884), made entirely in wood, painted and polished. The hull below the waterline is polished a light brown finish and painted black above. The hull has a clipper bow and rudder. Fittings include a stump bowsprit, foremast (missing), mainmast (missing), and mizzen mast (missing); long deckhouse located between the foremast and mainmast; and a poop deck the side section of which is painted white and accommodating a ship’s wheel and other features. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard, stained and polished a dark brown finish. On plaque attached to bottom right-hand corner of backboard ‘Palmers No 513 Shipbuilding & Iron Co Ltd 1884 Jarrow-on-Tyne’. On plaque (missing) ‘310 Otterspool-merchantman-1884. Iron ship, built at Newcastle-on-Tyne.’. Hand-rendered on bottom centre of backboard ‘Dimensions: - Length 266.5ft Beam 39.4ft 1850 tons.’.
