Galathee (1884); Cargo vessel; Barque
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the starboard side of the three-masted cargo barque Galathee (1884), made entirely in wood, painted and polished. The hull is polished wood below the waterline and black above with details drawn onto it including five port lids depicted in a half-open position. The hull has a clipper bow. Fittings include figurehead, a stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast, forecastle and poop, portholes beneath poop deck, rudder, and hawse hole. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard with bevelled edge frame (short sides of frame missing). On starboard bow ‘Galathee’. On plaque attached to bottom right-hand corner of backboard ‘Alexr. Stephen & Sons Shipbuilders & Engineers Glasgow’.
