Arctic Stream (1885); Cargo vessel; Ship
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the starboard side of the three-masted cargo ship Arctic Stream (1885), made entirely in wood, painted and polished. The hull is polished wood made up of several horizontal sections below the waterline and black above. Hull details include a clipper bow and rudder. Fittings include figurehead with decorative trailboard; foredeck with capstan and poop deck with three fittings; a stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast; and long deckhouse positioned between the foremast and mainmast. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard with bevelled edges, the lower half of which is mahogany the upper half, a light-coloured wood, probably maple, the dividing point indicating the waterline of the depicted vessel. On plaque attached to bottom right-hand corner of backboard ‘Arctic Stream merchantman 1885. Built at Glasgow Lost at sea 1914. Dimensions Length 250.3ft beam 38.1ft 1584 tons.’ (missing).
