Mona's Queen (1885); Passenger vessel; Ferry

Scale: Unknown. A half block model of the starboard side of the packet paddle vessel Mona's Queen (1885), made entirely in wood with metal fittings and partly painted in realistic colours. The hull is polished wood below the waterline, black above. Hull details include starboard paddle box, support and wheel, all painted black; strake, hawse hole; single row of portholes; and rudder. Other features and fittings include stump foremast and mainmast, and two funnels, the lower parts painted black and the remainder in red. The model is displayed on a rectangular wooden backboard, stained dark brown or black. On starboard bow ‘Mona's Queen’. On plaque attached to top right-hand corner of backboard ‘No.130 P.S. "Mona's Queen". Isle of Man insignia on paddle box. Plaque inscribed "Paddle ship "Mona's Queen" built for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co., By the Barrow Iron Shipbuilding Co., Barrow Ship No130 - Launched 18th April 1885 Length BP 320ft Breadth Moulded 38ft Depth Moulded 14ft 6in HP 684 Gross Tonnage 1465 Presented by Vickers Ltd. Shipbuilders Group Barrow Shipyard Barrow-in-Furness’.
