Danube (1886); Service vessel; Tug

Scale: 1:48. A full hull model of the tug Danube (1886), made entirely in wood with wood and metal fittings and painted and polished. The hull is polished wood below the waterline and painted black above. Hull details include hawse holes, single strake made in polished wood, rudder and three-bladed propeller. Other fittings include stump foremast, superstructure placed amidships, single funnel painted black with a broad red and yellow stripe, two ventilators, boat stowed on davits on the starboard side, rail encircling the aft end of the deck and ensign staff. The model is mounted on a pair of turned silver-plated pillar supports and displayed on a mahogany baseboard with rounded corners, which originally formed the base of a display case. On plaques at either end of baseboard ‘David & Dunlop & Co Engineers & Shipbuilders Port Glasgow’ and ‘Screw steam tug Danube’.
