Jenny Lind (1888); Fishing vessel; Beach boat; Yarmouth beach boat

Full hull model of the 'Jenny Lind' (1888), a beach boat (oared fishing craft), built plank on frame construction at a scale of 1:8. The model is equipped, with the sails set. ‘Jenny Lind’ is written on the port quarter, along with ‘Yarmouth’ on the starboard quarter. ‘YH932’ is on the port and starboard bows.

One of the last mackerel boats to fish off the beaches at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, ‘Jenny Lind’ was named after the popular Swedish soprano who toured England in the late 19th century. Rigged with a single dipping lugsail, the hull is fitted with removable washstrakes to deflect spray. These boats were one of the largest open boats to operate from the beaches on the east coast and as such were capable of carrying passengers for pleasure trips during the summer months.
