Hero; Service vessel; Pilot gig
Scale: Unknown. A half block model of the pilot gig Hero (circa 1890) made entirely of wood in bread and butter fashion, lightly stained and varnished overall. The hull consists of five layers of horizontal planks which have been glued and pinned together and mounted on a small thin backboard which acts as as the stern post, keel and stem post. The hull has a very narrow and slightly raking shaped bow, a long slender hull with a curved sheer finishing in a very narrow stern with a wine glass-shaped transom.
