Eclipse (1894); Warship; 2nd class cruiser
Scale: 1:192. Half block model of the Eclipse (1894), a 2nd class cruiser made entirely of wood with metal fittings. The lower portion of the hull is painted a copper-bronze colour which is divided by a thin white line towards the waterline. The lower hull is fitted with a rudder and a propeller shaft at the stern as well as a ram at the bow. The upper portion of the hull is painted black and includes circular portholes, gunports and apertures, a pair of oval shaped hawsepipes painted red internally, gun and anchor apertures, all of which have been carved into the hull. The main deck, forecastle, forward and aft bridge decks together with the raised walkway are finished in a light brown colour. There are a pair of oval shaped funnels which are slightly raked aft and mounted rectangular blocks of superstructure painted grey. Between the forward and aft bridges are six ventilator cowlings with their superstructures all of which are painted a light grey. The main armament consists of a pair of guns with black barrels together with their shields painted a light grey mounted on the deck. Other fittings include a pair of capstans, deck hatches, skylights all of which are painted a light grey together with a pair of stump masts finished in natural wood and varnished. The whole model is mounted on a wooden backboard which is overlayed with either paper or cardboard and painted a yellow-brown with a painted black moulded edging.
