HMS Diadem; Warship; Cruiser

Scale: 1:48. Shipbuilders half block model of HMS Diadem (1896), a 1st class cruiser. The model is made entirely in wood with the hull below the waterline finished in a copper-brown colour and fitted with a bilge keel amidships and a rudder at the stern. The upperworks to deck level are painted black. There are a number of features painted on to the black part of the hull including: portholes, scuttles, loading doors and apertures, all picked out in white paint. There are two pairs of casement guns at bow and stern, together with two smaller ones amidships which are complete with two vertically mounted guns. There are two decks which are painted a creamy-white colour, the upper of which surrounds the four truncated funnels and ventilation cowlings, all of which are painted light brown. Fixtures and fittings inlude: a bridge and conning position, two masts, an aft bridge position and charthouse and a pair of gun platforms at bow and stern (guns missing). The model is mounted on a wooden backboard painted a creamy-white, with a stained and varnished mahogany edging. On plaque: 'Diadem'.
