HMS Pelorus (1896); Warship; Cruiser; Third class cruiser
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the starboard side of the third class cruiser HMS Pelorus (1896), made entirely in wood and painted pink-brown below the waterline and black above. Hull features include a long foredeck and aft deck; long bulwark section amidships with five rectangular or trapezoidal sections cut out of it; and a balanced rudder. Other features and fittings include a forward bridge or lookout and stump foremast on the foredeck; six ventilators and two stump funnels, all painted ochre; several superstructure fittings on the main deck, painted grey; two small guns on the starboard side, fore and aft of amidships; and a stump mainmast (currently missing). The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame. Inscribed on a plaque attached to the top right-hand side of the backboard is ‘Pelorus’.
