Eagle (1898); Passenger vessel

Scale: 1:48. A model of the paddle steamer Eagle (1898), made entirely in wood with metal fittings. The model is mostly unpainted apart from the upper hull which is black and has black painted details. The remainder of the model is varnished. Hull fittings include a single row of portholes interrupted by the paddle boxes, rudders at bow and stern, gilded decoration at the bow, and paddle boxes with steel or tin plate paddles. Foredeck fittings include a companion hatch and three ventilators. The raised main deck includes the foremast with a triangular pennant inscribed: 'Eagle' and the mainmast has the house flag of the General Steam Navigation Company. Both masts can be lowered. Other fittings include a single steeply raked funnel with a black painted cap, six ventilators, a deck house with an open bridge atop, six benches (two forward, four aft), an additional wheel forward, and several skylights. There are two double ended lifeboats rigged to davits on the aft deck, an auxiliary wheel, a small circular skylight, and a companion ladder to the main deck. On the port and starboard bows and secondary wheel housing is: 'Eagle', on the stern: 'Eagle London', and: 'Eagle G.S.N.C.1824' is on the paddle boxes. The model is mounted on two modern cylindrical pillar supports and displayed on a modern oval baseboard.
