HMS Thistle (1899); Warship; Gunboat

Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the starboard side of the gunboat HMS Thistle (1899), made entirely in wood and painted pink-brown below the waterline, a narrow white stripe above, and black above the waterline. Other hull features include starboard hawse hole; two intermittent rows of portholes; bilge keel; and a balanced rudder. Other features and fittings include a long main deck with a gun mounted forward, and a shorter aft deck with an identical gun on a circular platform, both painted black; stump foremast and mainmast; enclosed bridge or pilot house with raised bridge wing; single stump funnel, painted cream; and a shelter deck with entry ports and windows. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame. Inscribed on a plaque attached to top right-hand side of the backboard is ‘Thistle’.
