Scale: 1:48. A contemporary model of HMS Leviathan (1901) made entirely in wood with metal and organic material fittings. The hull is made from of wood in bread and butter fashion and gauged out internally, and is painted in realistic colours with brick red at and below the waterline, and black above. There is a fine white stripe that runs the entire length of the hull which separates the red and black painted areas. The bulwarks, superstructures, funnel housings, and main gun turrets are all painted white. The fore and main decks are varnished wood inked and scored to indicate planking. The boat decks are painted silver grey. Four pairs of guns are built into each side of the hull. The long foredeck contains the main bridge which is in a raised position. The foredeck fittings include a single gun in a turret, two ventilators, and a wave deflector. The pilot house contains the ship's wheel and binnacle and on either side of the pilot house there are open bridge wings that both contain small guns and signaling lamps. The port bridge wing has a signal telegraph. The foremast is painted light brown and has a boom and two yards. A circular platform on the foremast contains a signaling lamp. There are four vertical funnels painted cream with black tops, three of which are lozenge shaped in plan whilst the foremost one is circular. On the port side of the funnels three boats are stowed on davits and two boats are stowed on cradles. On the starboard side of the funnels four boats are stowed on davits and three boats are stowed on cradles, including a punt. All these boats are painted white but have unpainted gunwales, and are equipped with oars. Aft of the funnels is a nest of five boats, three of which are steam vessels, two of which are large rowing boats stowed one inside of the other. Other main deck fittings include eight rolls of torpedo netting, hose reels, winches, a ladder stowed horizontally, and a number of small guns. The mainmast is positioned just behind the nest of steam boats and has a boom to facilitate their launching. The mainmast is rigged with two yards and a gaff boom and there is a signaling telegraph at the top of the mast. The mainmast also includes a red port flag and a green starboard bollard. The secondary bridge also has an enclosed pilot house with a wheel and telegraph and on the roof there is a binnacle. The bridge wings either side of the secondary pilot house have signaling lamps and life preservers and the starboard wing also has a collapsible chart table and signaling telegraph. The aft deck has a single gun in a turret and a pair of davits on the port and starboard stern quarters. A white ensign is flying from the stern and there is an open stern gallery with "Leviathan" on its port and starboard sides. The model has bilge keels, a pair of three bladed propellers, and a flat bottomed rudder.
