HMS Adventure (1904); Warship; Cruiser; Scout cruiser

Scale 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of HMS ‘Adventure’ (1904) a scout cruiser. Built in the builder’s style, the model is decked, fully equipped and rigged. Built by Armstrong Whitworth & Co., Elswick, it measured 374 feet in length by 38 feet in the beam with a displacement of 2,670 tons. It was powered by twin triple-expansion steam engines of 16,000 horsepower producing a speed of 25 knots.

The ‘Adventure’ and its sister ships ship, the ‘Attentive’ were the second pair of eight scouts built in 1904–05. Armed with ten 3-inch guns and two 18-inch torpedo tubes, these small protected cruisers were an intermediate design between the old Victorian third-class cruisers and the sturdy light cruisers of the First World War. The ‘Adventure’ served on the Dover Patrol during the First World War and was eventually broken up in 1920.
