Tabaristan (1907); Passenger/cargo vessel

Scale: 1:48. A model of the Tabaristan (1907) made entirely of wood which has been painted in realistic colours, and plated metal fittings. The hull is carved from solid wood and painted brick red below the waterline, salmon pink above with the remainder in black. The starboard half of the vessel is depicted and on the starboard bow and wheel housing is 'Tabaristan'. The hull fittings include an anchor stowed from the bow hawse hole, a bilge keel, and a companion ladder. A number of port holes are shown on the black painted section of hull, indicating two decks. Foredeck fittings include four ventilators, an anchor winch gear, and a flag staff. The forward cargo deck has three hatches, a derrick, and derrick masts with two booms. The main superstructure is positioned amidships and consists of a promenade, upper deck, open bridge with an enclosed pilot house, and boat deck. There are two funnels painted black with a white band with red and black chevrons. There are two boats stowed on the boat deck, one of which is stowed on davits. There is a depth gauge on the rudder. The model is displayed in its original display case with three mirror panels, and a display table. On plaque inside display case 'SS Tabaristan 390' x 46' x 27' Moulded built for F C Strick & Co. Ltd. By David & William Henderson & Co Ltd. Glasgow, 1907'.
