HMS Westminster (1918); Warship; Destroyer

Scale: 1:192. Waterline model of the destroyer HMS Westminster (1918) made entirely in wood with metal fittings and painted in semi-realistic colours. The vessel is depicted underway in a scenic sea. The hull is painted black below the waterline and light grey above. The superstructure, funnel, armament and other features is painted an identical light grey. Fittings include rows of intermittent portholes on two decks; long foredeck accommodating superstructure, bridge, radio mast, two guns and jackstaff at the bow; long main deck extending to the stern; two funnels, the forward one being taller and more slender, the aft funnel being squat and with two broad white horizontal stripes; armament including four torpedo launchers; secondary radio mast from which a white ensign is flying; and ensign staff at the stern. The model is set in a scenic sea realistically painted and modelled from plaster or modelling compound, depicted with small bow wave and leaving a wake. It is displayed in a wooden baseboard that forms the base of a glazed display case. On port and starboard three-quarter hulls and stern ‘D45’. On side of baseboard ‘H.M.W. ‘60’ and ‘H.M.S. Westminster’.
