HMS Arrow (1929); Warship; Destroyer
Scale: 1:48. The sixth ship to carry the illustrious name the ‘A’-class destroyer HMS ‘Arrow’ was built by Vickers Armstrong of Barrow, and launched on 22 August 1929. She was just over 323 feet in length, displaced 1350 tons and was armed with four 4.7-inch guns and eight torpedo tubes. ‘Arrow’ was damaged beyond repair while in Algiers harbour by the exploding ammunition ship ‘Fort la Montee’, on 4 August 1943. She was stripped down the following year and finally broken up in May 1949.
The model is of the highest quality, nothing less than what one would expect from Vickers Armstrong’s modelmakers. At some point it has been repainted, so that now much of the deck, superstructure and fittings are a moss-coloured green, while the white of the upper hull is too bright. Otherwise the model is in good condition.
