HMS Kandahar (1939); Warship; Destroyer

Scale: 1:128. One of two finely detailed metal-plated models in the NMM collection that were made by M. A. Batchelor (see HMS ‘Amethyst’, SLR1583). Being made of metal, the model is very heavy for its size, and one cannot fail to be impressed by the intricacy of the fittings. The armament, in particular, has all been well made. It is only slightly let down by the quality of the ship’s boats and the overall paint finish.

HMS ‘Kandahar’ (1939) was built by Denny’s of Dumbarton. In company with the destroyer ‘Kingston’ and the sloop ‘Shorham’, it sank the Italian submarine ‘Torricelli’ in the Red Sea in June 1940. She was later mined off Tripoli on 19 December 1941, and scuttled the following day.
