HMS Barfleur (1943); Warship; Destroyer
Scale: 1:192. Waterline model of the ‘Battle’-class (1st group) destroyer 'Barfleur' (1943). The model is decked, equipped and rigged. ‘D 80’ is painted on the port and starboard amidships and on the stern. It is displayed on a scenic base with the aircraft carrier HMS 'Illustrious' (SLR1544) and assorted small craft.
Built at Wallsend by Swan Hunter, ‘Barfleur’ measured 379 feet in length by 40 feet in the beam. It displaced 2,315 tons, had 50,000 horsepower engines and a top speed of 34 knots. It was broken up at Dalmuir in 1966. This class of destroyer, laid down in late 1942 to late 1944, were larger then previous destroyers and of longer range, being intended for operations in the Pacific.
