HMS Fearless (1963); Fighting vessel; Assault ship

Scale: 1:72. Model of HMS 'Fearless' (1963) made in wood and plastic with metal fittings and painted in realistic colours. The ship is depicted at sea launching a number of landing craft. The hull is painted black below the waterline, pale grey above. All the decks are painted mid-grey and all the superstructure, two staggered funnels, communication mast and many of the deck and superstructure fittings are painted a pale grey. Forecastle fittings include a wave deflector, anchor cables and capstans and an ensign staff. The main superstructure is placed forward of amidships and fittings include the bridge, pilot house, communication mast, radar array and various armanents. A white ensign is flying from a halyard rigged to the port side of the communication mast. Two double ended whalers are stowed on davits and two small landing craft are stowed forward of them. At the aft end of the superstructure is a vehicle hanger with a crane derrick on the starboard side of its entrance. The flight deck is positioned aft and there are two Sea King helicopters and a further two smaller helicopters with their blades stowed. Other features on the flight deck include three crates, three lorries and two anti-aircraft guns. Four large landing craft are shown, one containing two lorries, one with two tanks, one with a tank and two lorries and one is empty. There is a large crane derrick on the port side of the well deck. A number of Royal Naval personnel are depicted. The model is set in a blue plaster sea.
