Uruguay Star (1948); Passenger/cargo vessel; Liner
Scale: 1:48. The ‘Uruguay Star’ was one of a fleet of refrigerated cargo/passenger liners employed by Blue Star Line on their London – River Plate service. The ship was very well appointed and her 68 passengers were carried in considerable comfort while the spacious refrigeration holds could carry 10,000 tons of cargo. In 1972 she was sold and broken up in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
The ship’s dual function is clearly shown here on the model; derricks and large hatch covers fore and aft are combined with large areas of teak-covered deck space. It is a very competent piece of craftsmanship in a style characteristic of the modelmakers Dring. ‘Uruguay Star’ is depicted at sea with a realistic bow wave, wake, and pennant flying from the stern, all of which help to lend the subject a feeling of movement.
